In an act of simple cruelty, President Trump has played to his base and announced that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program will be ended. At EWU, WSU, and in our communities across Washington state, 17,000 DACA recipients – DREAMers – and those who love them now face the uncertainty of being ripped away.

If you are, know, or work with DACA recipients, here is important information from the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project.

"Defend DACA" action, Aug 15 2017, organized by members of PJALS Showing Up for Racial Justice committee

Because of the dangerous air quality, we are not organizing an immediate action. Instead, here are 4 ways you can take action to #DefendDACA right now:

TONIGHT: Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) committee meeting:

Tuesday Sept 5, 6:30 – 8:00, Community Building, 35 W. Main
Join our local chapter of SURJ (a committee of the Peace & Justice Action League of Spokane) to talk racial justice and unlearning white supremacy in Spokane, plan our major fall fundraising effort toward a legal fund for the undocumented community to access, defending DACA this week, and more. For more information, email [email protected] or join the SURJ Spokane facebook group

Contact Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers:

Due to the pressure she’s received, she has issued a statement supporting DACA. Now she needs to hear she’s doing the right thing, AND we need to tell her that a deal to “provide long-term certainty to DACA recipients” CANNOT include building a wall or in any way separating families or making the lives of immigrants involve greater risk and difficulty.
