SJM 8014 is now in the Senate Rules Committee, where it will languish unless a member of the Senate Rules Committee pulls it by Tuesday Feb 15 at 5pm to send it to the floor for a vote by the entire Washington State Senate. Fortunately, Spokane 3rd LD State Senator Lisa Brown serves on the Rules Committee and is the powerful Senate Majority Leader. On Thursday February 2 in Olympia, Joint Memorial 8014 was heard by members of the Senate Government Operations, Tribal Relations & Elections Committee. There were many supporters who testified as part of the “Bring Our Billions Home” campaign organized by our partners, the American Friends Service Committee and Fellowship of Reconciliation. That committee passed the bill and sent it to the Rules Committee.
Now, we need at least one Senator on the Rules Committee to pull the bill from the Rules Committee and send it to the floor for a vote!
Senate Joint Memorial 8014 from Washington State urges President Obama and Congress to immediately stop the war in Afghanistan; bring our troops home and redirect military war spending towards meeting human needs in the U.S. It pressures them to provide for the strengthening our safety net and infrastructure, here, at home instead of increasing U.S. dependency on an economy based in war, death and destruction.
We really need your help to get SJM 8014 passed in Washington State.
We know of no other state government that has gone this far to voice opposition to dependence on war, death and destruction.
