Brooke Sutton
Brooke Sutton joined PJALS this fall as an intern through Eastern Washington University’s School of Social Work. Brooke has always been passionate about helping others and promoting change. Her original intent was to work with at-risk youth and obtain her CDP. After looking into some of the work PJALS has done she decided to change up her original planning.
Brooke enjoys the number of opportunities that PJALS has to offer. With PJALS, Brooke is involved with Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), Peace and Justice Action Committee (PJAC), and the Young Activist Leaders Program (YALP). Brooke enjoys the opportunity to meet with others’ from different organizations and parts of the country to see what they are working on and hear their approaches to Social Justice issues.
Zoe Hjelm
Zoe Hjelm joined PJALS this fall as a part of an internship through Eastern Washington University’s School of Social Work. Zoe is passionate about social justice and community activism, which inspired her to pursue a degree in social work. Her academic goals include finishing her BASW and earning her MSW. She hopes to work with her community to make systemic changes to improve the lives of those who are most impacted. After researching the organization, Zoe felt like the opportunities available with PJALS would give her the experience required to help bring those changes.
While in college, Zoe has been a part of the Black Student Union, American Sign Language Club, and the college GSAs. She has also worked with children in the Spokane Public Schools and with at-risk youth at Lutheran Community Services. With PJALS, Zoe is involved with Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), Peace and Justice Action Committee (PJAC), and the Young Activist Leaders Program (YALP).
