People Power: Organizing Against Authoritarianism
Our country is facing a dangerous concentration of power—one that seeks to enrich the wealthy while targeting and scapegoating immigrant communities, trans people, and other beloved members of our communities. But we are not the first to face this. Across history and around the world, ordinary people have successfully resisted authoritarianism using powerful, nonviolent strategies rooted in collective action.
When people refuse to comply on a massive scale, anti-democratic forces can be stopped. Together, we can care for one another, build broad and resilient movements, and strengthen our shared vision for the future.
This highly interactive workshop will offer:
- Frameworks to help orient us in this political moment
- Strategies drawn from successful movements
- Practical tools for collective noncompliance and action
- Opportunities to connect, collaborate, and build community
What participants are saying:
“I liked the mix of presentation and then working in groups. It helps to get to know other people and lots of different ideas come up.”
“I’m now more likely to encourage others to become involved more actively in resisting authoritarianism.”
“It gave me actionable item ideas—not just talk.”
“I more thoroughly understand the different ways I can practice non-compliance and why it’s so important.”
“I have more clarity about how I can use my time well to make a difference.”
