Join our team as Youth Organizing Intern with YALP this Fall! YALP is a great opportunity to meet and take action with other like-minded youth who care about social justice and want to make a difference. Together we will learn about the voting process, elections, take action through phone and text banking, and much more. Interns who complete 7 or more of the 9 program sessions will receive a $250 stipend following the last session in November.
What is YALP?
The Young Activist Leaders Program (aka YALP) is a subprogram of PJALS that supports young people to make a difference on social justice causes they care about and help them connect in the greater Spokane community. YALP is for young people ages 15-22 who are passionate about social justice and interested in workshops for skill-building and political education.
What will YALP look like this Fall?
This YALP session, participants will engage in voter contact in an effort to increase voter participation in our upcoming general election. There are two main aspects of YALP this fall:
-
- Voter Contact | Interns will participate in phone and text banks aimed to encourage young voters in Spokane County to turn out at the ballot box.
- Political Education | Interns will meet campaign and local voting experts, and learn about the voting process, what’s on the ballot, and activist wellness.
This leadership development program is right for young people already active in or leading student groups, faith communities, and community groups, but also for folks still discovering activism. The sessions provide a gathering place for young people to ask questions, to educate each other, and to explore social justice work together, resulting in a vibrant network of friends committed to social justice.
