PJALS 2020 Virtual Benefit: Believing In the Yet To Be!

Wednesday, September 16th 12:00 PM-12:45 PM – via zoom (Register at link below and you will receive login information one week prior to the event)

We believe in a world that is free of the racist, sexist and exclusionary obstacles and challenges brought by the Trump administration and we are so glad you have been a part of helping us advance that vision. At Peace and Justice Action League’s (PJALS) Believing In The Yet To Be: This is the Moment, Building a Movement Virtual Benefit, members, donors, and new friends will get the opportunity to be part of a movement for peace and justice. You’ll hear firsthand how we can work together to expose and transform systems of hate, violence, exclusion and oppression to build a just and nonviolent world and create a culture of love and belonging in challenging times.

We are thrilled to announce our Keynote Speaker: Ingrid Sub Cuc

Ingrid is Indigenous Maya Kaqchikel and Q’eqchi from Guatemala. She moved to the United States at the age of 12, and is currently a graduate student at the University of Washington, where she continues to pursue her passion for Indigenous rights and public health.

Ingrid is a passionate advocate for issues effecting Indigenous Peoples around the world, specifically focusing on Indigenous identity, language, immigration, health, and environmental issues. She was raised in a Kaqchikel-speaking household with her grandmother and mother and has since acquired Spanish and English in order to pursue her studies. She remains an active student of her ancestral language.

Ingrid has participated in and presented at events such as the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, the ECMIA Conference of Indigenous Women, PeaceJam UK and at various universities across the state of Washington.

She aims to be an active member of her community as she continues to evaluate and develop her role as an Indigenous women in academia in the United States. Her work focuses on how to constructively and collaboratively advocate for local and global Indigenous initiatives.

The pandemic postponed our spring benefit but it did not stop our work of building a just and nonviolent world. Like our program work, our fundraising has also moved to the virtual world. We have been working hard to create a program that will replicate our in person event as much as possible and we hope you will join us!

There is no cost to attend – guests will have the opportunity to donate to PJALS largest fundraising event. Reserve your seat today!
