by Shar Lichty, PJALS Development Coordinator

Despite the challenging and uncertain times we are in, I am able to Believe in the Yet to Be because of the fantastic people who are a part of the PJALS community. I am continuously amazed by the steadfast commitment of everyday people to build a just and nonviolent world. The support you all have given as we navigated how to move our work to the virtual world in meaningful ways has been invaluable. One of our biggest challenges was how to move our annual benefit online and keep the feeling of community we have when we are together in physical space. Last month, we were able to do that because of members like you.

Without you, giving of your time and financial resources we wouldn’t be able to continue our work. Our members help set our priorities, lead our work in committees, volunteer for events, and are the financial support that has sustained our work for 45 years. Our Virtual Benefit is a perfect example of all of these areas working together to build community.

Thank you to everyone who was able to be a part of the event in whatever way worked for you. Thank you to our fantastic benefit committee members, our tech team, and powerful speakers for all of your time and work to create a successful event. Much appreciation to our amazing table hosts who fill the room, whether virtually or in-person—you are the lynchpin to the continued success of this event. Thanks to all of you, we exceeded our budget goals and welcomed 30 new members.

For the past eleven years, I have been honored and blessed to be a part of the PJALS community and never as much as right now. During these difficult and uncertain times, I can’t imagine not being a part of this community. You are what allows me to continue to Believe in the Yet to Be, knowing that we will continue to come together with our shared commitment to build a better future for all. The work is hard and the progress is often slow but it continues, our relationships strengthen, and our community grows through the struggle. Thank you for being a part of the PJALS community and the many ways you give to sustain our work.

If you were unable to join us for the benefit, we will be sharing videos from the event over the next few months via email and social media.
