This training will help prepare you as a formal or informal leader and as an individual to engage in mass mobilization and direct action in our community. During this hands-on training, participants will learn tactics and best practices for building our movement for immigrant rights, multi-racial democracy, and racial and economic justice. The training will include training in building toward mass mobilization and strategies and tactics for nonviolent direct action, de-escalation, and noncompliance. Participants will leave this training with a clearer sense of the choices and consequences of these particular tactics and how to implement them in a way that meets the goals of the movement we are building. After this training, we hope participants will:

  • understand the many roles, risks, legal aspects, and best practices for civil resistance and nonviolent direct action
  • be able to differentiate between terms such as civil disobedience, civil resistance, non-violent direct action, non-cooperation.
  • learn and apply techniques for staying focused on the objectives of the action and not being easily provoked
  • learn the questions and reflections to use to decide what role to take in an action

Co-Presented by Spokane Community Against Racism (SCAR) and Peace and Justice Action League of Spokane (PJALS). There is no cost to attend. Optional contributions will go towards workshop costs; any remaining proceeds will be split between SCAR and PJALS.
