You wouldn’t know it from the weather, but it’s time for June and Pride month!

Celebrate! PJALS is proud to be part of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and allied community! There are four ways you can join the Spokane’s Pride Celebration with PJALS:

  • Invite your friends to watch and discuss Out in the Silence: Love, hate, and a quest for change in small town America. We are proud to co-sponsor this event with The LGBT Center, Youth Suicide Prevention Program, OutSpokane, Spokane AIDS Network, Safe Schools, Odyssey Youth Center, PFLAG Spokane, The Alliance at SFCC, Salem Lutheran Church, and Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane. Many of these organizations, including several youth, will participate in the Q&A session following the film. The free showing will be at the North Spokane Library, 44 E. Hawthorne off of Division, on Wednesday June 15 at 6pm. For more information, call 838-7870.
  • March in our delegation in the Pride Parade on Saturday June 11! Line up with the PJALS banner (Money for People, Not for War!) between 11 and 11:30 am on Wall Street between Spokane Falls Boulevard and Main Street. The Parade will start at 12 noon sharp. Bring family and friends and let all your rainbow colors show! Optional RSVP to Shar Lichty at 838-7870 or [email protected].
  • Peacekeepers Wanted! Even in 2011, we expect a very small number of gay-obsessed zealots to show up at the Parade and try to rain on the celebration. On Wednesday June 8, come to our Nonviolent De-Escalation Training to learn skills to keep marchers safe and to de-escalate potentially volatile situations. When you complete this training, you can volunteer to be part of our peacekeeping team for Pride on June 11, Slutwalk on June 18, or other future events. The training will be Wednesday June 8, 5:30-7:30 in the Community Building at 35 W. Main. Sign up with Shar Lichty at 838-7870 or [email protected].
  • Recruit! Seriously, come volunteer at the PJALS table during the Rainbow Festival. It’s a great time to meet people and build connections for human rights, economic justice, and peace. Sign up with Dale Raugust at 838-7870 or [email protected].
