Thursday, December 14
5:00 p.m.
We will meet in front of the Community Building and walk together to the Division Street Bridge. Please dress warmly. Candles will be provided.
As members of PJALS, we are united by our commitment to oppose violence and oppression. Today, I am reaching out to you with an urgent call to action in response to the rapidly escalating Israeli military action in Gaza, and the Palestinian and Israeli lives lost.
Once again, PJALS joins other humanitarian and human rights organizations in calls for a permanent ceasefire, an end to Israel’s current blockade of Gaza and the 16-year siege, and the return of all hostages and political prisoners by Hamas and Israel. We view these as necessary first steps, designed to prevent the loss of more lives and to lay the groundwork for comprehensive negotiations aimed at ending Israel’s apartheid regime and illegal occupation and recognizing Palestinians’ right to self-determination. See our full statement here.
In honor of the unnecessary 18,272 Palestinian and 1,147 Israeli civilian lives lost, PJALS is hosting a candlelight vigil Thursday December 14th at 5pm. We will be gathering in front of The Community Building (35 W. Main Ave) and walk together with our candles to the Division Street Bridge. Candles will be provided, please dress appropriately for the weather.
This is intended to be a somber event to acknowledge the tremendous loss of life. There will be an opportunity to chant as we walk to the bridge, but we will participate in a moment of silence once we have arrived.
